First published in 2006 the Green Blade was established to showcase the work of Souteastern Minnesota writers and members of the Rural America Writers’ Center (RAWC) which was officially launched in the Spring of 2005 with a an all day conference entitled Writers Helping Writers.

Prior to 2005, the literary programs and Third Wednesdays Reading Series (begun in 2004) operated under the auspices of RAWC's parent organization the Rural America Arts Partnership (RAAP) which was founded in 2000 through the efforts of Dean Harrington, Sally Childs, Ken Flies, Emilio DeGrazia, and others.

Since it's inception all of the contributors to the Green Blade have been intimately associated with Southeastern Minnesota and the Rural America Writers' Center either through attendance of the Third Wednesdays Reading Series, classes and workshops, or are supporters of the Jon Hassler Theater, RAWC's bookstore Words and Afterwords or the Green Prairie Art Gallery.

Many of the stories which appear in the magazine were first shared during the open mic portion of the Third Wednesdays Reading Series held at the Rural America Writers' Center.

Now published annually, the Green Blade has featured more than 80 writers and artists over its brief history, including three minnesota poet laureates, winners of local, state and national grant and awards, as well as fresh new voices which have found this little community on the plains of Southeastern Minnesota.

In January we will begin accepting submissions for our 10th edition of the Green Blade. This is any exciting and busy time for many members of RAWC. This year especially so as we eye potential changes to the print issue as well as an expanded presence on the internet through this new website.

Come back often to keep informed of the changes or contact us is you have an questions or suggestions.
